oDesk

So is decided to try oDesk.com out. Figured it might be a good way to make some extra cash, but it hasn't worked out that way. Out of the first 20 data entry jobs I applied for I only heard back from one. After the interview and doing some test work for the person, they decided they were going to go another way and would contact me later when they were ready. Nine of the remaining positions expired. So apparently they didn't really want to hire someone very badly. I'm sure that there is the possibility of making money on the site, but I haven't figured it out yet. I'll keep trying though :)

6 Ways to Dress Up Your Home Party Demonstration

When giving home party demonstrations as a direct sales consultant, a little "dressing up" goes a long way. By adding a little color, flavor and pizazz to your demo, you can increase sales, date more shows, and add more customers to your database.

In addition to a friendly, approachable personality and a neat and tidy appearance, these following tips can help you dramatically.

1.Use Lapboards

Instead of handing your guests an ordinary catalog and order form as they walk in the door, surpass their expectations by handing them an attractive consultant lap board.

A lap board is sometimes a decorative clip-board, other times a hard notebook. Some are company specific, while others are generic and dressed up by the consultant. Inside the lapboard, put your catalog, monthly sales flier, order form, any incentives, and a pen.

2.Add Stickers

Stickers are fun, inexpensive, and can really draw attention to a product or opportunity.

Before placing your catalogs into your lapboards, go through each catalog or monthly flier and highlight specials or items you will be demonstrating. Do this for 3-4 items.

You may also want to put a sticker about your opportunity or hostess plan on the front of your catalog.This will increase the sales of these specific products as customers can find them easily and notice them in your catalog.

3.Shout Your Specials

You want your specials and your opportunity to leap out at your customers. Include a flier in your consultant lap boards about specials. These can be company sponsored specials, or specials that you are offering your customers.

They might be for the entire month, or specifically for those attending the demonstration. Make sure this flier is noticeable and attractive.

Another way to shout your specials is to invest in a small tabletop sign holder. These plastic holders hold a regular 8 x 11 sheet of paper. Make up a small sign about your specials or opportunity and display it on your demo table.

4.Display Your Items

When displaying your products, there are a few things you need to do to make them pop out to your customers.

First, make sure that you bring your own table to your hostess's home. This way you can set out your preconceived display with ease. You will also want to make sure that you cover your table with a tablecloth, be it company specific or a more generic one.

Your products should be placed on your table at varying heights, either by placing one product on top of another or using simple plastic display stands. You should also have accessories on your table that will make your products more appealing, but that your company does not offer.

For example, if your company offers a line of bath and body products, you may choose to include a candle with your display of bubble bath to give your customer an idea of how to use the product, even if your company does not sell candles.

5.Pick a Theme

When you choose a theme for your demonstration, it makes your show run smoothly and makes it fun for your guests. The more fun they have, the more money they will spend and the more likely they will choose to date a demo from you.

Following a theme makes party planning more convenient as well. Your snacks, games, samples, and list of products to demo will revolve around the specific theme you have chosen.

Have a book with a list of themes available for guests to look at during the demonstration. They will be more likely to book a show if they find a theme that they would enjoy.

6.Dress Up Your Samples

Adding a little ribbon, a cello bag, or accessories to your samples or giveaways will make customers appreciate them more. Instead of giving them a freebie, you have given them a gift, which is psychologically more valuable.

Utilizing these simple methods of dressing up your direct sales home party demonstrations can help you reach your party sales goals faster. Guests will have fun, your hostess will have fun, and you will be making more and furthering your business.

6 Ways to Errand Advertise Your Party Plan Business

Some of the best ways to advertise your party plan company are through local, inexpensive methods of "errand advertising".

What is errand advertising? This is advertising you do on your own, as you carry out your daily errands. Most of it is free, or costs very little to implement.

When you are involved in direct sales, most of the time, the customer is purchasing products from you because they like you, not because they desperately need the products. There are exceptions to this, of course, but I've found that the friendlier and more dedicated the consultant, the higher her sales.

There are many ways to advertise "you" while out and about. Here are a few tips to get you started:

1.Always look your best

The first, and probably most important part of Errand Advertising is to always look your best when out and about. You don't necessarily have to dress as though you are attending a demonstration, but make sure you clothing is neat, pressed, clean, and attractive.

Do your hair, put a little make up on, don't appear as though you have just rolled out of bed or have been painting the house.

A little goes a long way here. With errand advertising you are representing your business. You want strangers and future customers to believe you run a neat and tidy business, so you have to appear neat and tidy as well.

2.Personality is a plus

Whether you are talking to a burned-out grocery clerk, the woman in line behind you at the bank, or even your own children in public, personality is very important when advertising you.

Having a negative or bad attitude or being cranky, unfriendly, or unapproachable will do little to further your goals. Instead, remember to smile often, make positive comments, and reprimand your children publicly in a manner that does not convey how stressed-out or frustrated you are.

People are naturally attracted to positive people. When you radiate positive confidence, others instinctively want to do business with you.

3.Tote your catalogs

The most important part of errand advertising is to actually advertise that you are a consultant for a particular direct sales company. One of the most effective ways to do this is by purchasing a clear pocket tote bag.

This clear pocket is built specifically to hold your catalogs. You place a catalog or brochure in the window of the tote, and use it as your purse. The totes come in a variety of sizes, or can be custom made to fit your particular needs.

As you go about your errands, potential customers can see that you are a representative or a consultant for a direct sales company, and if they are interested in you and your products, the customers will approach you to ask for a catalog.

While this is the exact response you are looking for, I caution you to not just give your catalogs away, but tell the customers in a cheeky way that you trade catalogs. Let them know that you will give them a catalog in exchange for their business card.

If they do not have a business card, have them write their name, email, address and phone number on the back of one of your cards instead.

This way they have what they want: a catalog, and you have what you want: a contact.

4.Leave your name tag on

Another way to advertise what direct sales company you are a distributor for is to casually leave your name tag on. This works especially well on those days when you are dressed as if you are giving a direct sales home party.

Interested people will stop you and ask if you have any catalogs available, which, of course, you do, so long as they will trade their information for it.

5.Buttons prompt action

Simple pin-back buttons can also be a great addition to your errand advertising accessories. You can place a pin-back button next to your name tag, or attach it to your clear view tote.

The button should have some sort of catchy saying on it that will entice strangers and potential customers to take action to approach you about your party plan business.

Things like, "Place an order, get a gift" or "Ask me how to earn $1000" are examples of what you can do.

Some consultants get very creative with their pin-back buttons. They offer discounts, mention fundraising, offer their opportunity, or even offer incentives for asking for a catalog.

Keep your message short, simple, and noticeable.

6.Let your car do the talking

Probably the easiest way to advertise your home party plan business while you are running around doing errands is to purchase a vinyl decal for your vehicle.

These decals are very inexpensive, and can be custom made to advertise the information you wish.

First and foremost, you want your home party company name in big bold letters. After that, you can choose to include your telephone number and/or your website address.

Depending on your area, and your direct sales company, you may wish to omit your telephone number for safety issues. Make sure you measure your car's back window to see how large your decal should be, and get your letters done in white.

Now everywhere you go your car will be advertising for you!

1. What are three benefits of competition among firms to the consumer?
2. As a consumer, how are you personally impacted by the benefits you listed? Provide at least one example.

Three of the ways that consumers benefit from competition are by lower prices, innovation, and variety of choices. As competition in a particular segment grows often they are forced to offer their products or services at lower prices in an effort to win consumers. This can also lead to a wider variety of options for a person to choose from. Innovation is also a great benefit from the increase of competition.
Personally, I have seen increasing benefits to myself especially in technology products. The first computer I ever had saw a Commodore 64. At the time there were very few computers on the market for the individual. As the demand for personal computers grew so did their capabilities and choices that were offered. This has led us to a place where your choices of a home computer are almost limitless. Do you want a PC, laptop, or netbook? Do you want to go with one from Dell, Acer, Apple, HP or another brand? With so many choices available the costs of computers have dropped dramatically in recent years. This makes it much easier for a consumer to find the right product for their needs.

Surprising uses for Eggs

I would never have thought to do any of these things with eggs. They are very interesting and who knows I might try a few of these out one day :)

1. Grow seedlings. Break eggs so that you have about two-thirds of the bottom part of the shell in tact. Rinse out. Poke a hole in the bottom with a pushpin. Fill each egg with some soil, and plant a few seeds in each egg. Place eggs back in the carton. Once the seeds are big enough to plant, put them into the ground, shells and all. The shells will act as fertilizer.

2. Clean your disposal. Put an egg or two down your disposal?the sharp shells clean the blades.

3. Fertilize plants. Crush five dry eggshells into a powder and add to soil before planting. Since eggs are made up mostly of calcium and magnesium, they're great for plants. To make a liquid fertilizer, just keep your eggshells in a watering can. Add water, soak for several days, then use the water for your plants. Water from boiling eggs works, too.

4. Scrub pots and pans. Use crushed eggshells instead of steel wool.

5. Make better coffee. Add a few crushed eggshells to your coffee before brewing for a smoother taste. An old cowboy trick.

College Has Begun

My classes with Rasmussen College started last night. I'm so excited to finally be back in school :) I'm taking intro to business, principles of economics and principles of management this quarter. I've got 3 small essays and 3 discussion topics to write by tomorrow night. Not that bad for beginning assignments. I've also got to do some research on a Fortune 500 company in my state. I don't even know if we have any of those companies here in Maine LOL

Stuffed Green Pepppers

Stuffed Green Peppers:

Ingredients
6 medium tomatoes - peeled, seeded and chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
3 ribs celery, diced
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water
2 teaspoons salt, divided
1/2 teaspoon pepper, divided
4 medium green peppers
1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup instant rice, cooked
1 teaspoon dried basil

Directions
1. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine tomatoes, onion, celery, tomato sauce, water, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, cut tops off of green peppers and remove seeds; set aside. In a bowl, combine ground beef, rice, basil and remaining salt and pepper; mix well. Fill peppers with beef mixture. Carefully place peppers in tomato sauce. Spoon some sauce over tops of peppers. Cover and simmer for 40-45 minutes or until beef is cooked and peppers are tender.
